When his mother went into early labor in their family bathroom, Jayden Fontenot jumped into action.

The 10-year-old remained calm as he took the necessary steps to not only save his mother’s life, but also his new baby sibling. And thanks to his quick thinking, what happened over the next few minutes led to a happy ending.
Jayden’s mom, Ashly Moreau, was 34 weeks pregnant when she went to the bathroom and her water broke.

“I looked down and my son’s feet were hanging out.”
To make matters worse, she had just sent her fiancé to work. Bleeding out, Ashly yelled for her young son to come help.

Jayden first ran to his grandmother’s house and while she called for an ambulance, the boy hurried back to his mom’s side. “Okay, Mom, just tell me what I need to do and I’m going to do it,” Ashly recalled him saying.
Listening to his mother’s instructions, the 10-year-old delivered his little brother.

But his tiny sibling wasn’t out of the woods yet. The newborn wasn’t breathing.
Knowing what he had to do, Jayden ran into the kitchen to get his little sister’s nasal aspirator so that he could clear his brother’s airways.

It was only then that the ambulance arrived. Ashly said this of her son’s actions: “I want him to know I’m so proud of him. He is brave, he is strong, he’s my hero.”
If it weren’t for this young man, his mother would have bled out and his little brother wouldn’t have survived.
