Corporate “Sleep Out” Helps Raise $125,000 In One Night For Homeless Youth.

Lenox Advisors, Inc., a wealth management services company, recently hosted a “sleep out” for Covenant House. The sleep out was company-wide, the first of its kind for Covenant House, and involved about 70 employees sleeping outside on the street for a night. The goal of this seemingly unusual event was to raise awareness for the 2 million homeless youth in the United States.

Covenant House is a nonprofit that provides all the basic needs for homeless youth as well as crisis care, healthcare, job training, and educational programs. They offer support, warmth, and teach skills to help kids gain independence and self-worth. There are 27 Covenant Houses all over the United States, Canada, and Latin America. The company runs on donations and has been able to take care of 1.2 million kids since its inception.

Lenox Advisors decided to partner with Covenant House to set an example for other companies on the impact they can have on their communities. Employees slept outside around the Covenant House shelters in New York City and Hollywood. All they had was sleeping bags and cardboard boxes. It was eyeopening for them to endure just one night on the streets while dealing with weather and discomfort.

In one night, the Lenox Advisors employees were able to raise over $120,000 that will help provide housing, food, clothes, and other resources for the kids at Covenant House. Seeing support from the community makes a huge difference in these kids’ lives. Previous sleep outs by broadway stars, mothers, students and corporations have been very successful in their efforts. Other companies should definitely pick up this awesome idea and start hosting their own sleep outs.
