Crafty Grandma Transforms Backyard Into Vintage Drive-In, Brings Family Together For Cutest Movie Night.

What could be more fun than a summer night spent at the drive-in movie theater?

While going to the drive-in used to be a common weekend activity, the theaters have become few and far-between these days. So, rather than taking her family to some inconveniently located drive-in, one Ohio grandmother decided to create her own fun, by building a vintage-style drive-in theater in her backyard.

Sherry Pratt, 49, is a grandmother of 6. So when all of the children end up on summer break at the same time, she’s kept pretty busy thinking of fun ways to keep everyone entertained and make special family memories.

When she spotted a giant, projector screen on Amazon, she quickly came up with a brilliant plan for a movie night. Not for anyone’s birthday or to celebrate anything, but “just because.”

“I was scrolling on Amazon one night and saw these movie projectors and it hit me,” she said. “I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to have an outdoor movie night?’ So I made these cars out of these little boxes for them. My son is a graphic designer, so I had him make the license plates with their names. Things just kept popping in my head to make it like a real drive-in. We just invited anybody who could make it. I think we had 12 children there.â€

She painted cardboard boxes to create the “cars” and even created a snack stand!

“I just like to build memories for them so they can remember as we get older,”she said. “Our family means a lot to us and we try to do things with the kids. That’s what I like to do best.â€

Her niece, Jessie, posted photos on Twitter; her tweets have since gone viral.

Twitter can’t get enough of the sweet family.

If Sherry’s intention was to keep her family close together, it’s worked! “It’s just so nice to be close to everyone and to be able to see them all the time,” said Jessie. “It just feels good.”
