A story of great valor and bravery can stir us unlike most other things. In particular, when people risk their lives for others it puts things into perspective and connects us in a deep way.
In this example of heroism, 20 seconds was the difference between life and death, and this brave firefighter was there to put his life on the line. The hero’s name is Mike Hughes, and he is the retired fire captain who miraculously saved a baby girl’s life 17 years ago. Her name is Dawnielle Davison.
Hughes was so moved by this heroic encounter that he was compelled to reach out to Dawnielle on Facebook. The two were able to connect, and since that time Hughes has attended many of her track meets and other events.
But the most recent milestone was when Hughes attended Dawnielle’s high school graduation. The reunion was very emotional. Above all, it demonstrated that serving our fellow man is one of the most important and lasting things we can ever do.
