16-Yr-Old Serenades Great-Grandmother With “How Great Thou Art,” Fights Tears When She Starts To Sing Back.

Spending quality time with the people in our lives who are older than us is very important. Not only is our time with them very precious, but being able to honor them for the long life they have lived shows true respect.

It is not very common for people to remember their great-grandparents, let alone get to be old enough to have a relationship with them before they have passed away. This is why it is so special when these relationships come along. The video below– of 16-year-old Olivia Erway and her great-grandmother– perfectly captures the love that can be shared across generations.

The incredibly sweet video starts out with Olivia sitting next to her great-grandmother, letting lets her know that she is going to sing her a song.

Olivia begins singing the lyrics to “How Great Thou Art” with a flawless vocal delivery; however, it is actually her great-grandmother’s performance that steals the show!

With one hand resting on Olivia’s shoulder and the other hand cupped to her ear, she joins Olivia in singing the final two lines of the song. These final moments of the video are so sweet to witness. You can see she is focusing both on Olivia’s beautiful singing and the meaning of the words.

Once Olivia has finished singing, her great-grandmother takes her two hands and gives her the biggest smile.

“You are a great singer, Grandma,” Olivia says in the video. “You have a pretty voice.”
