Tourist Mom Saves Teen Boy During Barcelona Terror Attack – Now Shares Her Harrowing Story.

These days, it seems like we can’t get through a week, let alone a few days, without hearing a story about another terror attack. But with those reports come tales of resilience, kindness, and above all, love.

That’s what Shari Weise’s story is all about. The 54-year-old mother from California was visiting Barcelona on Thursday when she decided to check out the popular tourist destination, Las Ramblas. The pedestrian mall is lined with shops, eateries, and a famous market. But when she heard the sound of banging metal, she knew something was wrong.

Shari looked behind her and witnessed a mass of people running towards her. “I quickly realized that I had to get out of the way,” she recalled. A van was plowing through the crowd, bodies flying everywhere.

But she didn’t immediately jump out of harm’s way.

Instead, she helped another pedestrian:

I saw maybe a 14-15-year-old boy like a deer in headlights, he just froze and I could tell on his face he didn’t know what to do. So when I jumped to the right, I pulled him behind a pole with me and we crouched down together on the ground.

She remembers thinking, “I don’t want to get killed, I have kids, I have to get out of the way.”

As she crouched on the ground, the mother called her daughter to let her know she was okay. Many people might have simply run for cover, but it’s truly amazing that this mom’s gut told her to do whatever she could to save a helpless teen’s life.
