Nico-Calabria-Playing-Soccer

Despite being born with one leg, Nico Calabria has destroyed the bounds of expectation to become a young man worth emulating. He’s a perfect example of triumph in the face of adversity.

In an interview with Coke, Nico recalls two of his greatest accomplishments:

  • At the age of 13, he became the first person to ever reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro on crutches, raising over $100,000 for the Free Wheelchair Mission.
  • In his debut game with the U.S. National team he scored a goal against the Mexican National Amputee Team to help win a close game, 2-1. What is even more surprising is that he is the youngest member to ever be included on the team.

“It was a proud moment to wear my country’s colors and hear the national anthem and to realize that you’re playing for more than a team victory, you’re playing to represent your country.â€
