What started out as a simple, $10 lesson in frugality turned into much, much more for a North Carolina woman.
Last fall, Glenda Blackwell headed off to a gas station with specific instructions from her husband. She was to buy two Powerball tickets. Instead, she decided to take the opportunity to show him, once and for all, what a waste of time and money his silly lottery habit was.
Glenda bought a $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off ticket to prove her point right then and there.
“I was going to be ugly and buy a scratch off to show him they didn’t hit,” she said. “Sometimes I get aggravated with him, so I tell him, ‘You’re just wasting your money.'”
Instead, she hit the jackpot. The ticket was worth $1 million!
Considering that the odds of winning the lottery are almost one in 14 million, Glenda was totally okay with being proved wrong herself.
“I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating,” she said. “So, I was very happy.”
She chose to cash out with the lump sum, which amounted to $415,503 after taxes and said she planned to use some of the money to purchase their own land and set some aside for her granddaughters’ college fund.
Almost makes you want to head out right now and get a scratch-off ticket, doesn’t it? Share Glenda’s story to spread smiles!
