With His Wife In The Hospital, Husband Showed Up In A Tux For A 57th Anniversary Surprise!

There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the enduring love between an elderly married couple. On Wednesday, May 20th, Jim Russell showed up donning a tux and carrying flowers and chocolate to surprise his wife Elinor on their 57th anniversary. ABC News reported that they usually keep their anniversary low-key, but this year Jim wanted to make their celebration special because Elinor had been hospitalized for the past month.

“We’ve known each other all our lives,” said Jim of his wife. “I’ve known her since she was in pigtails.” The two eloped after Jim served in World War II, and– all these years later– Jim still refers to Elinor as “my bride.” Their granddaughter, Reid Russell, captured the anniversary surprise in this Tweet that has now going viral:

After Jim presented the flowers and chocolate to Elinor, ABC News reported that the happy couple dined together and watched their favorite shows “Jeopardy” and “Wheel Of Fortune.”

This story goes to show that it doesn’t take many expensive things to make a moment special, just some special thought and quality time doing things you both love.
