Occupied by Germany during WWI, Kolmanskop was built upon a rich diamond mine in southern Namibia and exploited for its resources. The entire town was built in the style of German architecture and in its heyday had every convenience of a small german town.
The scene is much different today, where tourists can expect to walk through empty houses, knee-deep in sand.
