How do you celebrate 100 years of life? For Dr. Robert Moore of the California Bay Area, the answer involved dogs. Lots and lots of dogs! This life-long dog lover had no idea what was in store for his special day.

In fact, not even his family, who orchestrated the event, could have predicted this level of turnout. His daughter, Alison Moore, took to Nextdoor, an app for connecting with neighbors, to spread word of an idea she had for Robert’s big day. Her request? For folks to bring their dogs by their house so he could pet their four-legged friends.
Considering the fact Robert’s friends and family have given him the nickname, “The Dog Whisperer,” we can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate!
Turns out, their neighbors couldn’t have agreed more. While the Moore family expected 20 to 30 dogs to show up, nearly 200 showed up to wish Robert the happiest of birthdays!
“My father, he was so touched,” Alison said. “He pet [sic] every single dog that came through. Every person brought the dog up to him. It was so lovely.”
Petting nearly 200 dogs sounds like the best birthday ever if you ask us!
Many of the canine pals arrived dressed for the occasion – some donned tuxedos while others wore cowboy hats. Plus, many of them brought gifts, including cupcakes, drawings, flowers, and posters.
“This is probably the biggest thing that’s happened in our family that’s given us the most joy,” Vickie, his other daughter, said.
Living up to his nickname, The Dog Whisperer was able to name every single dog that stopped by to wish him a happy birthday. Truly, what a perfect day for a dog lover! And what an unforgettable way for this family to celebrate the long life of a loved one.
“It’s hard to explain how special it was,” Alison said. “He really felt the birthday love. They were mostly strangers… and it just made you feel wonderful about your community that people would come out and do that for your dad who you love so much.”
