Chelsea Grillo was attending a minor league baseball game at Falcon Park in Auburn, New York, with her family members one summer day, when suddenly her 3-year-old son, Drake, was presented with an offer he couldn’t refuse. Before the Auburn Doubledays took on the Lowell (Massachusetts) Spinners, assistant general manager Shane Truman asked if the cute little tyke wanted to sing the national anthem for the crowd.

Drake, who clearly has confidence to spare, didn’t hesitate to step up to the plate, so to speak. As Chelsea knelt beside him on the pitcher’s mound, Drake grasped the microphone in his pudgy little hands and proceeded to belt out the “Star Spangled Banner” better than most adults ever could.

Drake is a tremendous sports fan and the Grillos are season ticket holders who are well-known in the ballpark. At the tender age of 3, Drake has already been to dozens of games, so he knows most of the words to the challenging song, but the blond cutie did need a little prompting from Mom on a few of the lyrics.
For the most part, though, he sang the whole thing unaided – and he did great!

“There were a few questionable words in there,” Chelsea later laughingly admitted. “We just didn’t know how it would go… Drake started singing it in the winter and will randomly sing it off and on during the day.”
Honestly, how many grown-ups do you know who might mumble a few of those difficult verses? A lot!

After Drake finished, the crowd erupted into cheers, and he received high fives and fist bumps from other fans all night long. After the Doubledays posted the video of the little cutie singing on their social media pages, the performance instantly went viral, and for all the right reasons!
Now Drake’s already lining up more performances. He’s scheduled to sing the song again at a fundraiser for hip dysplasia, an impairment his sister Saylor suffers from, at the end of July. The event will support a program at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital that procures specially designed chairs and car seats for children with the condition.

Way to go, Drake! As the Doubledays said on Twitter, we’re sure it’s just a matter of time before “American Idol” comes calling!
