In a video posted recently on Instagram, we hear the golden voice of Magda Olivero. Viewing the unassuming older woman, one would not suspect she has the voice of an angel. But when the singing begins, everything in the world disappears. All that remains are the soprano sounds of a hearty and robust operatic singing voice.

Magda began her professional career singing Nino Cattozzo’s oratorio on the radio at 22 in 1932. Her career spanned several decades, from 1932 until March 1981. She did take a ten-year hiatus from 1941 until 1951, but her presence was a mainstay in opera until she was 71 years old! Magda passed away in September 2014, but her voice lives on.
Magda was 96 when she sang two songs for the Assumption of Mary in 2006.
