Some pooches learn how to roll over or play fetch, but this four-legged artist is dedicating his energy to a slightly more elevated activity. Cody the dog has a natural talent for putting brush to canvas, and his owner supports his paintings 100%. Jessi often films her pet’s creative process and shares the videos on social media. They’re pretty impressive!

In one post, the dog mom recorded Cody painting a piece “from start to finish.” Using a special paintbrush holder that he could carry in his mouth, the pup began with a few splotches of white on a purple canvas. Later, he switched to a vibrant greenish-yellow hue, which he applied with a pair of smaller brushes. When Cody was done, Jessi took the sweetest photo of him posing with his art!
Watching this dog work, it’s clear that he really enjoys painting. He looked so excited as he dabbed his brushes against the canvas to make different shapes. At one point, he nearly swiped his wagging tail across the wet paint!
“Does his tail ever get painted with all the happy tail wags,” one commenter asked.
Mom replied that this happens “often.”
Did you know that you can see this dog’s paintings in an art museum?
If you’re a fan of Cody’s artwork, you can purchase this dog’s unique paintings on Instagram. Those who live near Auburn, Alabama can also see some of his pieces on display at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University! Artist Daniel Newman has collaborated with a number of creative critters, including Cody, to produce a one-of-a-kind exhibition. According to the museum’s website, this art show is about “challenging ideas around non-human creators’ awareness, reason and intelligence.”
It sounds like this dog has cultivated quite the artistic career despite the fact that he’s only been painting for two years. That’s one talented pup!
