This heart-melting video has received over 17 million views on social media. Commenters thought it was way too sweet to see this husband break down crying as he held his newborn son.
“You picked the right one Mama,” wrote one user.
Another added, “He’s gonna be the best dad.”
In the background of her clip, Mom included a snippet from the song If I Were a Boy by Beyoncé. It might seem like an odd choice to use the lyrics, “But you’re just a boy, and you don’t understand,” given the context, but this woman had an important reason. She wanted to show that, even though her husband didn’t actually give birth to their son, his emotions were just as deep as hers. Unlike the man in the song, he “understands” his wife’s feelings.
This video is part of a larger trend of women showing off how kind and sensitive their husbands and partners can be, especially when it comes to childbirth. It seems to have started with a few posts from moms talking about how indescribable an experience it is to give birth. Many of these clips used the same Beyoncé audio to indicate how their partners couldn’t possibly comprehend what it’s like to have a baby.
“How do you explain this feeling to a man?” one woman wrote.
Other moms responded with videos saying that they “don’t have to explain” because their partners already understand them.
Giving birth is definitely one of those things that you kind of have to experience firsthand in order to fully grasp it. However, that doesn’t mean spouses and partners can’t show their support from the sidelines! It also doesn’t mean that parents without uteruses love their children any less.
