Spencer B from SB Mowing might be our favorite nerdy lawn guy. This young man (he’s 26) is one of those special people who devotes his time and effort to improving his community. With more than 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube, he is pretty popular. On TikTok, where he posts shorter versions of his lawn transformations, he has over 9 million followers.

On this occasion, our hero received an email from the city asking if he could help a disabled elderly woman. The city was trying to avoid issuing a citation, which would require them to send out a crew and bill the homeowner $240. Spencer stepped up and went to see the woman, whose name is Beth. When he told her he could help her for free, there were tears aplenty…
Getting Started On This Lawn Transformation
He cleared sidewalks, cut down voluntary trees, trimmed overhanging tree branches, cut the entire lawn front and back, and trimmed up all the flower beds. The difference was incredible. You knew it would turn out beautifully from the first swipe of his heavy-duty weedwhacker. Not only did Spencer do the lawn, shrubs, and trim work, but he also removed vines growing into the fence and up the side of the house. He crawled under the porch to remove yard waste and debris.
When he finished, Beth came back out. Looking around, she could only utter, “Spencer, wow” at first. She’d been watching him work through the front windows but wasn’t prepared for the closeup view. When he arrived, the driveway was barely visible, and shrubs blocked the porch steps. As Beth walked down the clear steps and onto the driveway, she looked around in amazement. But that’s not all Spencer did for her. When he shared a video of the yard transformation online, he was flooded with comments from people wanting to help further improve the accessibility issues around Beth’s home. Spencer created a GoFundMe and in less than 24 hours, it raised over $569,000!

SB Mowing has been in business since 2009. Spencer began making and posting YouTube videos in 2021. His wife, Andrea, helps with the company and editing video content. The pair also own and operate SB Pressure Washing.
One of the things that makes Spencer and SB Mowing stand out is their dedication to the community of Wichita, Kansas. Every week, Spencer volunteers his time to perform a lawn transformation for someone in need. Sometimes, it might be a request from someone. Other times, Spencer might see an overgrown house while driving around. He is not shy and will knock on a door to find out if he can help.
The company also maintains a roster of regular lawn care customers, which is how they pay for these volunteer efforts. At 26, Spencer has earned the title of community hero in Wichita.
