When the temperatures drop and school is canceled, Michigan people tend to get creative. This can lead to new and not always safe ways to entertain themselves. For the Patterson family, the jury is still out. It started with a challenge. Sadie and her dad decided to find out how she would look with frozen hair.

With the temperature sliding in at a real feel of -9, it was a perfect day. Dad got a spray bottle, filled it with water, and set it to mist. I would have opted for a cup or pitcher, but what the heck? Working the trigger on the spray bottle probably kept his hand warm. Sadie positioned herself on the patio sofa, with her medium-length hair cascading over the arm.
Sadie’s dad finally had her hair wet enough to freeze. The experiment was a success. Dad helped Sadie sit up, and her frozen hair stood straight out at a 90-degree angle to the ground. Since it looked like she was running faster than Sonic the Hedgehog, one thing led to another.
Yep, you guessed. Someone in the comments suggested trying to run like Sonic, and there it is. Mom Julie and daughter Sadie might still be laughing. Dad has disappeared into a snowbank somewhere. The frozen hair video went viral, giving Sadie bragging rights when she returns to school.
If you’re a “fun” parent, you probably wish you lived where the air hurts your face so you could try this. Trust me, it’s been a brutal week. Although my daughter is grown, this would be something we would have entertained ourselves with when she was nine.
Please don’t ask me about the Ivory soap in the microwave experiment…
