Police officers get a wide variety of calls. When residents called in complaints of an unsafe slide, the police dispatched officers to inspect the equipment. The responding officers arrived, expecting to place caution tape and notify the proper authorities. Be aware that the officer uses a colorful word as he skids across the ground. Since the viral video, the slide is now “Cop Slide.”

One Boston Police Officer thought sliding down would be a good idea. Viewers can hear screaming before he catapults out of the tube. He slid off the end of the slide and landed several feet away. He did have injuries and sought medical care on his own time.
In fairness, it looks like a pretty awesome slide. The city built the playground in November 2022 as part of the City Hall Plaza renovation plans. It is on Google Maps if you search “Cop Slide, Boston.”
The renovation project cost a whopping $70 million with the unpredicted benefit of creating a tremendous tourist draw. Although the posted age recommendation for the slide is from 5 to 12, there is no shortage of adults who want to relive their childhood. There are almost 50 reviews on the Google Maps listing, and the Cop Slide has a favorable 4.6-star rating.
Some of the more comical reviews have been removed (party poopers). A favorite was from Dan Rafia, who wrote, “I felt both served and protected by this slide.” A reviewer identified as Dj MuffinTops stated, “Faster than the Green Line.”
The city will evaluate the Cop Slide and determine its future. They have numerous injury reports and must weigh the obvious tourist benefits against the potential for serious injury.
Slide this to your friends.
