Man Finds Surprising Visitor Crawling Around In The Gutters Of Home

Nobody likes cleaning the gutters, but it must be done. Shea Lynn Murphy’s husband didn’t want to clean them either. He’s a lineman and worked hard after hurricanes Helene and Milton to keep the power on for everyone. But he heard something up there scratching and scritching, so he had to investigate. He did not expect to find a turtle in the gutter.

He probably expected to find a tiny animal like an injured bird or a chipmunk with a stash of nuts. Grabbing the ladder, the dutiful husband climbed up near where he heard the sound. When he got a look at what he was hearing, he reached out for it, wearing a shocked look. When he gets the prize out where it is visible, no one can believe it.

Yes, that is a turtle he found in the gutter. Now for the fun part: figuring out how it got up there. The most plausible answer is that a hawk or a falcon picked it up and then dropped it on the house. It would have slid or rolled down the slanted surface to land in the gutter. Birds use that tactic to crack turtles on rocks and other hard surfaces. Plausible or not, that’s rather boring. Why have boring when we can speculate?

Exploring Ways For A Turtle To Get Into The Gutter

This happened in Florida, so the first suspect is Florida Man, who may have tossed the little critter up there to avoid running him over with the lawnmower. Another favorite suspect in Florida is an alligator. It is possible that an alligator planned to eat the turtle. Not in the mood for lunch, the scared little turtle ran up the downspout and climbed until he reached the top.

Moving on to squirrely suspects. If a squirrel thought the turtle was an egg or a walnut, he could have carried it to the gutter. Hey… it could happen! After toiling, he rested, then had an ADHD moment, totally forgot the turtle, and went out in search of nuts. This thought is the fault of the squirrel from “Ice Age,” who chased his walnut all over creation and landed in some odd spots.

Snakes frequently slither into drain pipes. What if the little turtle climbed in the downspout? While enjoying some cooling shade, a snake could have slid in and pushed him to the top. Seriously, you could see this little snake pushing that turtle all the way to the gutter without realizing it, right? Look at that cute little, totally clueless face.

Maybe that little turtle is an escaped Koopa Paratroopa from the Mario RPG world. They have wings and can fly, but they might be more challenging to recognize when their little wings are hidden. Weirder things have happened in the Mario world with all those mushrooms flying around.

We hope you enjoyed our silliness. Please share so your friends can laugh, too. It isn’t every day that you find a turtle in your rain gutter.
