At the Nebraska Humane Society, bringing your dog to work is an accepted practice. Each office door is split. The top portion can remain open, and the bottom stays closed to corral the critters. Workers bring their dogs to work with plenty of toys. Occasionally, a dog coworker gets bored and attempts to coax personnel into unscheduled play.

This was one of those days. The coworker across the hall is Tellen, a border collie. She tries tempting other workers in the building to play by tossing her toys over the half door into the hallway. Needless to say, the ploy was very successful.
Passersby tossed the toys back into the office for Tellen. TikTok user Bluejello22 works directly across the hall. After hearing Tellen’s toys “thunk” on the floor half the day, they finally got up and tossed them back to the patient puppers. Of course, that did nothing to curb the behavior of her dog coworker. All the toys find their way right back over the door, eager for more interaction.
Although dog coworkers might be a slight distraction throughout the day, they also bring joy to a workplace. Numerous studies discuss the pros and cons of animals in the workplace. Overall, workers are happier, and productivity is higher. Because dogs are natural “comforters,” they provide mental health benefits to lower employee stress. While some workplaces might be new to “employing” dog coworkers, Amazon has permitted them in the offices for 20 years.
At the Nebraska Humane Society, pets are integral to the office environment. Employees who don’t have pets still get impromptu visits from dog coworkers, which allows them to share the benefits of a pet-friendly workplace. Dog coworkers keep office morale high.
