When and elderly man need help in the grocery store, a younger man jumped in to help.

When you get married, you aren’t always sure you have a “keeper.” As they grow together, couples change because humans are constantly evolving. A promising sign that you have a “keeper” is if your spouse offers to help a total stranger in a grocery store. When Brittany Kievit watched her husband one day, she knew.

The video shows an elderly gentleman in a motorized shopping cart. When Brittany’s husband noticed the cart’s battery was dead, he jumped into action. He went to the front of the store and retrieved a functioning cart. Parking next to the non-working cart, he helped the gentleman transfer his groceries to the new cart.

He didn’t have to do that. The pair could have walked right past the man to continue their shopping. The couple in San Antonio, Texas, has three children at home and lives a busy life. None of that means anything if you can’t find time to help someone in need in the grocery store.

Watching her husband stop and help the elderly gentleman is refreshing. We need these small moments in a world where everyone is rushing around, too busy to breathe. Being kind is never a bad thing. Whether it is holding a door open or just smiling at a passing stranger, your generous act can make a significant difference.

When you smile, your brain releases dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin. These neurotransmitters act as natural pain relievers and antidepressants and make us feel better. When people receive smiles, they feel better about themselves and their situation. One genuine smile can change a stranger’s entire day. It costs us nothing to give but offers an infinite return on investment. Smiles can change our lives.
