According to the Animal Humane Society, “Animal hoarding is an accumulation of animals that has overwhelmed a person’s ability to provide minimum standards of care. Those standards include nutrition, sanitation, shelter, veterinary care, and socialization.” When authorities find hoarding situations, removing the animals can result in overcrowded rescue shelters. When Alison Phelus saw Teeny, she knew she had to rescue the chihuahua.

Teeny came from a hoarding situation. The tiny chihuahua began life in New Mexico. The little dog was abused and “used as a breeding machine.” When she became unable to breed, they left her to die. She ended up with an animal caregiver in Tennessee. Alison has around 15 rescue animals, including dogs, birds, horses, cows, goats, and lizards. The large farm can handle the tiny powerhouse.

The hoarding shelter was terrible, and the dog’s health waned. Teeny developed a severe flea infestation, eventually causing an infection in her eye. The only way to fix the eye was removing it. Alison adopted Teeny and immediately began to work with the rescue chihuahua to restore her confidence.

The tiny chihuahua is sure she is a German shepherd with a dab of Great Bernese. The timid, scared, formerly abused dog is gone. Herding the livestock has become one of Teeny’s favorite activities. Arriving on the farm with Alison has offered Teeny a new life, and the rescued chihuahua embraces every part of it.

Teeny prefers being outside, where she can run free. She will even hide with the goats to stay outside longer. The tiny dog seems to be reliving being a puppy or perhaps experiencing being a puppy for the first time. The little rescue chihuahua has found her loving furever family.
