Teaching students to play music as written is fairly easy. Getting students to understand how to make music is a bit more difficult. Tyrone Marcell is a violinist, singer, and songwriter. While working with the violin section of a high school youth orchestra, he taught the students to improvise.

During the lesson, Tyrone began by playing a short snippet. He told the student she could make it whatever she wanted. She started playing a modified version of his snippet as he told her she had just learned the basis of improv.
Encouraging the student to play a little louder, Tyrone added his improvisation, turning to the orchestra as he continued playing. He turned to the shy violinist, urging her to keep going as he shifted his improv to create a new sound. In the background, you can hear someone plucking on a Viola. That was the orchestra teacher, also working on learning to improvise.
While these young students are just learning, Tyrone has built his career around his violin and talent for music. He plays for weddings around the globe and advertises that he is available for destination weddings. On February 2, 2023, he played in the famous Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tyrone does not limit his genre to classical music. In the video with the youth orchestra, he used Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish as the base song while teaching the students to improvise. His performances include a variety of his original work and some well-known music adapted for the violin.
