A Barking Cat? Feline “Greets” New Kitten With Unexpected Reaction

A cat in a bed staring at a kitten.

We usually don’t expect to see a cat barking, but that’s what happens when one of these animals is raised around dogs! Pet mom Katie shared a hilarious video of her cat having an unexpected reaction to the brand new kitten in the house. In the clip, the older feline stared at the newcomer for a while before making a very strange sound. Mom explained that this was just his attempt at a bark!

“POV: Your 2-year-old cat grew up with dogs and starts barking at your new kitten,” Katie wrote in her video.

Understandably, the tiny kitten didn’t seem to know what to make of the larger cat barking at them. This silly video has received over four million views on social media!

It’s amazing what happens when dogs and cats are raised together! Many pet owners have noticed their cats barking and picking up other dog-like behaviors after hanging out with their canine siblings. For example, one social media user posted a clip of their kitty, who had been brought up with pooches. This cat actually pants just like a dog!

At first, his owner was concerned that there might be something wrong with the animal. However, numerous trips to the vet have only revealed that the feline is in great shape! He must have picked up this habit from the pups in the house. His owner added in their post that they’ve seen the cat barking, too!

Do dogs ever act like cats?

As it turns out, this phenomenon goes both ways. Dogs can also pick up unexpected traits from living with cats! One owner caught the best footage of their big pooch sitting on the kitchen counter with his feline siblings.

It’s pretty funny to see cats barking and dogs hanging out on countertops! Animals never cease to surprise us.
