When the COVID-19 pandemic first began, many people found themselves searching for a way to stay busy – while also staying away from other people.

Ieva and Dzintars Slares live on the North Devon coast of England with their two kids. During the lockdowns in early 2020, the family explored the beaches near their home to get some fresh air and expel their creative energy. They soon discovered they could use rocks, shells, sea glass, wood, and even fruits and berries to create elaborate and beautiful works of art in the sand.
1. Their first creation was a simple mandala, but that quickly lead to even more complex designs.
2. They mostly make natural portraits, but they like to branch out to mythical creatures too, like this stunning Phoenix.
3. Cornflowers have never looked prettier on the beach.
4. They often pay tribute to pop culture moments and current events. Here’s their tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
5. It’s hard to believe how delicate their art is, considering it’s made out of stone and other debris.
6. All of their butterfly designs are whimsical and sweet, but this is our favorite.
7. Who doesn’t love Paddington Bear? He’s even cuter in shell form!
8. Beach4Art is really a family affair. All four of them collaborate to make their art.
9. What started as a weekly activity has now become a way to relieve stress every day.
10. The kids love to make seasonal art, like this winter snowman and his snow dog.
11. It must take them ages to collect all of the materials and make the art, only to have it all get swept away by the changing tides.
12. When the family travels to other beaches, they use local fruits, berries, and other items to put a new spin on their work.
13. Whether they’re all white or brightly colored, each design is unique and beautiful in its own way.
14. How cute is this little puffin?
15. The original art may not last, but you can buy a print of their work on Etsy that will last a lifetime.
This looks like such a relaxing and fun activity for the entire family. We wish them much success with their artistic endeavors!
