Cats can’t see red… so why do they chase that red laser light around the room? We see the light as red, but your cat sees it as movement, and that is what they chase! Cats will also chase the white reflection of a watch, a regular flashlight, or any other light source. However, when you expose a cat to a blue light the world around them becomes easier to focus on and see.

Your cat can see blue, green, yellow, and grey hues best. If you have ever known a color-blind person, your cat’s vision is probably very similar to that. Reds and pinks appear as muted greens and greys. TikTok user Kaylee shows us this concept using a cat filter and blue light.
Kaylee recently lighted up her cat’s world using a blue light while filming the cat’s reaction. The look of wonder on the cat’s face is indescribable. He looks around, taking in the whole room as if for the first time.
Kaylee found her cat when he was a small kitten. It was days after she lost her brother, and she was filled with grief. The kitten was covered in fleas and barely alive. A vet with a heart helped Kaylee nurse the kitten back to health. During the process, Kaylee worked through her grief over the loss of her brother. She helped the kitten survive — and the kitten helped her survive.
Kaylee learned a lot about cats in helping the kitten grow into a healthy big cat. Part of that knowledge is in how cats see the world. She is sharing that knowledge with her TikTok followers. In the short clip below, the cat’s expression shifts as the blue light lets him focus better on the things around him. Amazing!
