Just a few days before Christmas, Denzel Washington made a big move in his relationship with God. The 69-year-old Gladiator II star was baptized on December 21 at Harlem’s Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ. To commemorate the special moment in his faith journey, The First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Eastern New York live-streamed the service on Facebook so everyone could share in the special moment. The ceremony was two-fold for Denzel. In addition to his baptism, he received his minister license, permitting ordination into the church sometime in the future. The father of four said during the ceremony, “In one week, I turn 70,” he said. “It took a while, but I’m here.”

Denzel Washington Shared The Importance of God In His Life
In November, he shared a personal essay with Esquire about his childhood and why God meant so much to him.
“Things I said about God when I was a little boy, just reciting them in church along with everybody else, I know now,” Denzel wrote. “God is real. God is love. God is the only way. God is the true way. God blesses.”
He added that God’s presence in him is more important than the public’s opinion.
“I don’t care what anyone thinks,” he wrote.
Seeing him dedicate his life to God meant a lot to those who watched his baptismal ceremony on Facebook.
One woman wrote, “So Happy for my Little Brother Denzel Washington. Love you Denzel, I know your Mother Lennies Washington and your Dad Supt. Denzel Washington Senior Rejoiceing in Glory.”
Another congratulated him, “Praise the Lord Minister Denzel Washington. What a beautiful blessing to witness the goodness of God! May God continue to bless you and your family.”
This person loves seeing Denzel’s faith in God in action. “What a blessing it is to see Denzel Washington get baptized.”
