When it comes to misunderstood critters who are actually adorable, flying foxes are definitely near the top of the list! Although many people are scared of bats, these animals are pretty fascinating when you get to know them. They’re also incredibly important to the environment! Conservationist Ben Dessen posted a precious video of his new flying fox friends in Africa.

In this clip, Ben traveled to Protect Paradise Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Seychelles. There, he met some of the cutest, cuddliest flying foxes you’ll ever see! These affectionate animals seemed happiest when the man was giving them snuggles and head scratches. When they weren’t being held in his arms, they were crawling all over his torso!

Have you seen a cuter face? 😍 Flying foxes are not only adorable, they also play a very important role in keeping our forests healthy and thriving. Sadly, bats are often feared and persecuted right around the world. They are even eaten here in the Seychelles and are caught in the most inhumane ways. I was lucky enough to visit the @protect.paradise Wildlife Rescue Centre and see the great work they are doing to protect not only this important keystone species, but many other amazing native animals. While Ben enjoyed his visit with these friendly flying foxes, he delivered an important message to his followers. Apparently, bat homes all over the world are being destroyed, leaving these animals vulnerable. Flying foxes in Seychelles are no exception. Not only is this devastating for the bats themselves, but also for the rest of the environment!

“Now, these remarkable creatures are known as a keystone species, which means they are crucial for the survival of the beautiful rainforest here on the islands,” Ben said.

He went on to explain that native plants need flying foxes to help disperse their seeds. If these creatures were to die out, it would spell doom for their habitats, as well! Thankfully, Ben also said that Protect Paradise Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is dedicated to helping sick or orphaned bats by “rehabilitating them and releasing them back into the wild.”

All in all, flying foxes are pretty cool little animals!

Aside from being important to the environment, Ben believes that flying foxes are also “inquisitive, intelligent, and adorable.” It’s a shame that so many people dislike these animals!

“Sadly, bats are often feared and persecuted right around the world,” the conservationist wrote in his caption. “They are even eaten here in Seychelles and are caught in the most inhumane ways!”

Although these creatures are often maligned, it’s still not a good idea to get too close to them in the wild. Even Ben warned his followers never to touch an injured bat. It’s always best to call the local wildlife rescue instead!
