Chunky Baby Penguin Breaks Weigtht Record
Pesto, the baby penguin, is a 9-month-old King Penguin. However, do not assume that this penguin’s young age means he’s small—quite the contrary. Pesto weighs in at an incredible 46 pounds. The SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium said on its website “He’s officially the largest chick SEA LIFE Melbourne has ever seen, making him a huge hit with guests and fans around the world.”
The website further goes on to explain why Pesto is so large for a baby penguin. They contribute it to multiple factors, the first being his being his genes. SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium mentions that “his biological dad, Blake, is our biggest and oldest penguin,” so they think some of those genes were passed down to him. Second, they say that Pesto has incredible parents raising him, which helps contribute to his strong growth.
Let’s not forget his impressive diet of 25 fish a day! However, this large size and heavier weight will come in handy for this baby penguin as he will lose a lot of it when he fledges.
