Dee Dee Simon was so powerful that she “sang out of her shoes” in an AGT early-release video.
The performer, who will be featured on the Tuesday, June 11, episode, shared her story with judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel ahead of her amazing audition. She explained that she’s spent her adult years working as a registered nurse at San Quentin State Prison, and she hasn’t had the opportunity to chase her singing passions.
While she’s focused on her career and family over the years, she’s been singing as a hobby She even tried performing for the inmates twice. The first time, a riot broke out, and she had to triage everyone. The second time, “it was peace.”
However, Dee Dee hopes to step in front of different audiences, which is why she tried impressing the judges on America’s Got Talent.
“You know, it’s always been a door. I get to this door, and I never get to go through it because of something,” she explained. “So my big dream is to make that door, walk through it, and take care of my family.”

Dee Dee jumped right into And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going by Jennifer Hudson. And with her first note, the judges and crowd were taken aback by her power and soul. Not only did she sing the words perfectly, she felt them. Everyone experienced the emotion right alongside her. Simon even looked like he was on the brink of tears.
“Who’s crying?” an AGT fan asked under a YouTube video. “The way she broke that song down was so beautiful!
As she moved through the lyrics, Dee Dee came right out of her shoes and had everyone on their feet, watching in awe.
“When you see her taking her shoes off, you know she was entering another dimension,” another person wrote.
All four judges gave Dee Dee Simon a “yes” along with glowing praise. Heidi even said she is “one of the best” singers they’ve heard this season.
“You picked one of the hardest songs in the world, and you absolutely nailed it,” Simon added after telling her that her whole life would change with that one audition.
