American Museum Of Natural History Unveils Brand-New Prehistoric Exhibit

A crowd watches on as a man speaks at a podium in front of a newly unveiled dinosaur specimen at the American Museum of Natural History

Since 1869, the American Museum of Natural History has been a source for a number of astounding exhibitions. After all, their mission is to “discover, interpret, and disseminate” our knowledge of “human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.” Their latest prehistoric exhibit is the perfect example of how they do exactly that.

You’ll find a number of dinosaur specimens in the world, but none are quite like the latest at the American Museum of Natural History. While this isn’t the first Stegosaurus specimen to be uncovered, it is certainly the largest and most complete. In fact, it’s said to be a whopping 80% complete! Check it out for yourself in the video below.

“The audible gasp from the little kids was so wholesome,” someone points out in reply to the grand reveal, with another person adding, “My parents would take me and my brother to the Museum of Natural History and we’d HAVE to go to see the dinosaurs first.”

Although the exhibit just now opened up to the public, it was first discovered in 2022. It was located, quite fittingly, outside of Dinosaur, Colorado.

The American Museum of Natural History Unveils a Dinosaur Specimen Unlike Any We’ve Discovered Before

Much to the delight of experts, it was “extremely well-preserved” with a total of 254 out of 320 bone elements. Any that were not present were filled in with 3D-printed parts.

In other words, a lot of time, care, and effort went into this exhibit. While visitors of the museum can admire it behind a glass barrier, researchers will be given much closer access. They hope to study the specimen in order to learn details about the Stegosaurus’ life history, growth, and more. Amazing!
