Rescue kitten Noggin is not exactly the most photogenic feline in the world. The poor little guy was born very small, and his “overzealous” mother licked his head so much that she accidentally exposed his brain. Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) Ellen Carozza intervened, taking the kitten home so she could personally nurse him back to health.
Ellen is a co-founder of a nonprofit called Chris Griffey Memorial Feline Foundation. She often cares for kittens in critical condition, like Noggin, in addition to her work at the NOVA Cat Clinic in Arlington, Virginia. As she began to care for Noggin, the first thing she did was apply a “tape cap” to his tiny head to keep the area clean and covered. As a result, all of the pictures she share of the kitten feature a hat of one form or another.
Things looked dicey for a while, and the kitten nearly lost an ear and an eye to infection. Thankfully, Ellen was able to get him the medical care he needed, and now he’s growing stronger every day. His spunky personality is also starting to emerge.
“Look who hit 180 grams today!” Ellen wrote on Instagram. “Noggin is a purring machine and is also starting to be more mobile.”
A month after his birth, Noggin’s skull began to heal. Ellen continued to share adorable photos of him on Instagram. One of the people who spotted his picture is Isa, a Dutch illustrator who creates “Pet Disneyfications” on her popular Instagram page. Isa decided to help spread the word about Noggin to her nearly 300,000 followers in hopes of drumming up more financial support for his care. She created a sweet Disneyfication of Noggin, which of course went viral.
We really think Isa captured his feisty spirit, don’t you? Excellent work, Isa! We’re sending our best healing wishes to little Noggin as he continues to fight for his life.
