Divorces can be complicated for families to navigate. When former partners meet new partners, blending those families creates additional challenges. How parents, blood and future stepparents, handle this can make or break family bonds. For Megan Elizabeth, looking forward to marriage also meant accepting bonus children. She excelled, which led to her asking her stepdaughter to be the maid of honor at her wedding.

Megan began a journal with an entry written to her stepdaughter, Kairi, describing why she would be the perfect maid of honor. Megan and her future husband brought Kairi (pronounced Ky-Ree) into the kitchen. Dad held his hands over Kairi’s eyes until she sat before a box on the counter. Megan read from the journal that would chronicle her marriage journey.

In the first entry, Megan related their journey to this point. Forming the bonds that would effectively blend the families, she described the friendship and admiration she felt toward Kairi. The short passage ended with Megan asking her stepdaughter to be her maid of honor. There were tears, laughter, and much joy as Kairi accepted.

The success of a blended family depends on several relationships. When children are involved, that often means having an extended relationship with the children’s other biological parent. For Megan (the future wife) and Kaylah (the ex-wife), that means a new friendship. Megan found out Kaylah was having a rough day, so she took a few minutes to make a special care basket. When Kaylah was dropping off her children, Megan gave her the box and urged her to take some “Kaylah Time” and to pamper herself.

After viewing several of the videos on Megan’s TikTok page, this blended family already has a great start.
