Tragedy struck a Hollywood couple on January 3. Jeff Baena, the 47-year-old writer, and director, died by suicide. He leaves behind his wife, Aubrey Plaza, with whom he’d been since 2011. The pair had a strong and loving relationship, and Jeff’s death appears to have shocked those who knew him well.

Aubrey and Jeff’s family released a statement obtained by People. It reads, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Aubrey Plaza Did Not Attend The Golden Globes Following Jeff Baena’s Death
According to Fox News, the Parks and Recreation star planned to present at the Golden Globes but opted out of the awards ceremony following Jeff’s death.
During the Golden Globes, director Brady Corbet shared condolences with the family during his acceptance speech for best director for The Brutalist. Brady thanked the Globes for his award and then shared a kind message, “Finally, tonight, my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family.”
Although Aubrey has not shared anything on social media about Jeff’s passing, fans looked to previous posts to share their love and good thoughts. Aubrey shared a photo of herself and Jeff on Instagram in May 2021 for his birthday. She wrote, “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italia to cause some more trouble.”
A fan shared, “You guys were the most beautiful couple I’m so sorry for your loss I hope you find your way out of the deep hole you probably feel like your in but loss is hard especially when you lose someone this special too you, I wish you the best. Rip Jeff Fly High.”
Another wrote, “So very sorry for your loss. Sending you.”
This person also prayed, “All my thoughts and prayers are for you and the rest of your family. My condolences Aubrey.”
