Chass has posted online before about her frustrations with her family. She always felt she didn’t belong, wondered if she was a difficult person to love. She describes thinking there was something wrong with her, that she had to prove herself in order to be worthy of love.
Because of these frustrations, Chass decided to order a DNA kit to learn more about herself. She documented the events that ensued in a dramatic series of tweets.

Soon after sending her sample off, Chass eagerly checked on her results.

As she looked at the information, one line in particular jumped off the screen:

Her mom insisted to Chass that her father is not European, ignoring the DNA results. Chass asked her sister about it, and she– in turn– pressed their mom on the matter further.

“I told her I’m not upset, but I know she’s not being truthful since I know for sure my father is half white,” said Chass.
With the truth out there, Chass had to ask

“My identity, which includes my last name, were lies,” said Chass.
But she didn’t take long to recover from the shock. She quickly got whatever information she could and “commenced to looking for him.”

Finally, Chass took the risk and sent a Facebook message to the complete and total stranger she now knew to be her dad.
