America loves sports and holidays, but baseball and Halloween top both lists. Each year, Tyler Junior College celebrates both with an annual Halloween Baseball Bash. Players wear their favorite costumes and play “in character.” Then-sophomore Ren Reynolds chose Forrest Gump’s iconic khaki slacks and plaid shirt from the 1994 movie. Although Forrest Gump didn’t play baseball in the movie, he was a perfect addition to the Apache team.

During an interview with the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Ren said, “One of my teammates (Trey Erwin) told me to keep running, and when I did and jumped the fence I thought ‘I hope they think it’s funny’ because I was tired after!” People did find it hilarious.

The post on Twitter shows sideline photographers laughing as Ren makes an out at first base but continues running. Passing the bag, Ren runs straight to the outfield fence, jumps over the wall, and disappears into the distance. He did circle around to rejoin his team for the remainder of the game.

Teammate Trey Erwin didn’t have the same luck with his inflatable dinosaur costume, but the result was equally hilarious. Although the triceratops could not see well enough to hit the ball, he did scamper off to first base when the catcher lost the ball.

Halloween, Baseball, and Forrest Gump are good traditions. We hope the Tyler Junior College Apache Athletics continues celebrating its annual Halloween Baseball Bash and posting the hilarity online. Ren Reynolds has graduated since this game occurred in 2019, but the tradition is a wholesome way to celebrate. People worldwide will remember the year that Forrest Gump went viral playing baseball.

Please share if you enjoy Forrest Gump, baseball, and Halloween as much as we do.
