“Part of it was, ‘Okay, if I’m going to participate in this, I want to try to do it in an honest way and in a way that’s interesting.’ Because I thought it was an interesting examination,” he said.

Ben Affleck Still Has Respect for Jennifer Lopez Following Their Divorce

He shared kind words about his ex and how she dealt with fame, saying she “handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have.” Ben added, “My temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers.”

Ben Affleck admitted that he and Jennifer Lopez are very different people, but he knew that going into the marriage, and that’s not what led to the divorce.

“There’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly … the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting,” Ben said.

He made it a point to note that his marriage’s demise had nothing to do with a scandal. Instead, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez ultimately divorced because of a difference in lifestyle choices.

“It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do,” Ben added.
