Cats and dogs are not known for having “friendly relations.” In most families where both species reside, the general atmosphere is one of tolerance. They don’t typically act like besties. As the cat finishes, the dog uses his shorter front teeth to gently “nip” at the cat’s head. In wild animals, this technique is helpful to remove fleas. In domestic animals, it is simply a form of caring and affection.
The cat dutifully bows its head while the dog gently massages its head, offers a few cleansing licks, and then continues the massage on its shoulders. The cat stretches into the shoulder massage. Each animal is in a joyous spot. Their faces display the hypnotic look of ecstasy.
These two have no care for social norms. This cat and dog continue to massage one another regularly. They are obviously living their best lives; we should all be happy for them. This cat and dog team are very content in their togetherness, even beyond their mutual love of massage therapy. A few days later, the two were enjoying each other’s company.
Just as many relationships within the animal kingdom amaze and confuse us, this cat and dog duo is an unlikely pair. They exemplify that all species can form bonds and create lasting friendships. The phrase “fighting like cats and dogs” has no meaning here.
