Did you notice that the Moon looked especially beautiful last night? If you did, that means you were lucky enough to catch the harvest moon! This happens when the full moon falls nearest to the first day of fall. While this occurrence is always a sight to behold, everything perfectly aligned so that this year was particularly special.

In addition to being a harvest moon, last night was also a supermoon. This means that the Moon was closer to Earth than normal, making it appear massive in the sky. This, of course, means that the harvest moon was clearer and even more awe-worthy! For some, this brilliant Moon was still visible this morning.

September's full moon is generally known as the Corn Moon, except when it's the closest full moon to the fall equinox, which, with autumn not yet a week old, this one is.

“I was driving to the gym before work and I couldn’t help but gasp and smile when I spotted it!” Corinne Sanders, InspireMore’s Head of Newsletters said. “I remember saying out loud to myself how beautiful it was.”
Because the harvest moon lines up with crops reaching their peak in the Northern Hemisphere, the full Moon has been known to give farmers more time to reap what they’ve worked so hard to sew, all while under the best view.
Here's a couple of pics of Tonight's Super Full moon AKA the Harvest Moon Captured with my Telescope!! 🌕🔭 (fun fact: it's called the Harvest moon bc its the Closest Full moon to the Autumnal Equinox and this is also The last Supermoon of 2023) pic.twitter.com/501AKtAHCv

But farmers weren’t the only ones able to admire this fall-time event, of course! Countless folks have taken to social media to recount the moment they first saw the harvest moon, with some taking the time to share in the beauty with friends and loved ones.
I used two telescopes to capture this super detailed shot of the Full Harvest Moon right as it cleared the clouds. I live for these moments. pic.twitter.com/QPzrpQIuvP

“I spotted the moon while on the phone with my friend, and it was so gorgeous I immediately went on a quest to find the best spot to take a picture for her,” Abby Bowman, Staff Writer/Editor at InspireMore said.
Looks like the harvest moon was the perfect way to usher in fall 2023!
