Humility is a funny thing. Have you ever seen a stunning, smart, talented person with major insecurities and think, “Man, what could they possibly feel insecure about?”

But the truth is we all get shy, nervous, and unsure of ourselves now and again, no matter how perfect we may seem from the outside. One Australian performer certainly knows what we’re talking about. Looking at him, you’d think Brock Ashby wouldn’t get nervous about anything. After all, he’s fit and totally handsome. Oh, and he can sing? Seriously, he has it all.

Like anyone else, however, the thought of auditioning on “The Voice Australia” left him feeling pretty nervous. He had the jitters, but after a deep breath, he bravely made his way to center stage to perform his rendition of the Kings of Leon’s hit “Use Somebody.”

The judges couldn’t see him right away, but during pauses between lyrics, Brock tended to let his arms drop away from his face and it became clear just how nervous he still was. And can you blame him? That’s scary stuff singing on national television in front of huge names in music!

Still, he sounded incredible and eventually found his groove. Kings of Leon is a band known for its grittiness, but Brock smoothed this rough-around-the-edges track into something all his own.
Finally, after belting out one seriously gorgeous chorus, some judges turned!

By the end of the performance, all but singing beauty Delta Goodrem had turned their chairs (something she’d hilariously regret later). When Brock was finished singing, Delta joined the rest of the gang and collapsed into a heap when she laid eyes on the talented heartthrob.

Joe Jonas explained that he felt some parts of the song were a little shaky, probably because of Brock’s nerves, but he ultimately couldn’t pass up such a wonderful voice. That said, Brock felt a special connection with judge Kelly Rowland that left her in tears, and he ultimately chose to be on her team.
