Bubbles probably has the most appropriate name for any fish at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Bubbles is an adult batfish who has an obsession with bubbles. This silly fish will harass the aquarium divers until they give it kisses and blow bubbles on it.

As a batfish, Bubbles did not always look like a flat wafer. Juvenile dusky batfish have long, flowing fins that look almost like wings. Their black and orange coloring gives them a Halloween flair. As they grow, the fins change, shrinking to “normal” size. The coloring changes from deep black to gray, with white and black stripes. The dusky batfish have bright yellow highlights on their tail fin, anal fin, dorsal fin, and tiny markings on their bodies.
Bubbles the batfish also loves getting and giving kisses. When training divers, the aquarium lists kisses for Bubbles as their third most important job. It might also be their favorite part of the job. It does seem much more pleasant than cleaning the aquarium.
Juvenile batfish tend to be solitary, while adults prefer the communal life of large schools. They live in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They prefer reef environments with plenty of nooks and crannies to hide in. We aren’t sure how many reside at the aquarium, but Bubbles seems to be the friendliest.
The Aquarium of the Pacific is home to a wide variety of sea life, animals, and birds. The aquarium is the largest in California and houses more than 11,000 species. You can enjoy more of their videos by following the aquarium on TikTok and Instagram. The staff produces plenty of informational videos for social media.
