Carrie Underwood Tears Up After Heartfelt “American Idol” Audition

American Idol isn’t just about the incredible voices of the contestants, their stories are equally important. When the hopefuls make it to the final round before Hollywood, they audition in front of judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood. At that moment, they also have a chance to talk a bit about themselves and what got them to where they are today. Samatha Ray took her moment on American Idol to share a touching dedication to her later sister that brought Carrie Underwood to tears.

She sang I Hope You Dance and when asked why she chose the song, Samantha shared a sweet story.

“I was thinking about my sister a lot,” Samantha shared. “Earlier this year, in February, I lost her to a drug overdose. Losing her hurt so much. She’s a year younger than me and we were very close. She had two little boys and knowing they don’t have their mom anymore is really heartbreaking. So, I’m here for her.”

“You did a great job,” Luke told her.

When It Was Time for Carrie Underwood To Address The “American Idol” Hopeful, She Got Choked Up

Carrie Underwood told her fellow American Idol judges, “I’m teary-eyed. It goes right to me.”

Lionel told Samantha that she had him hooked at the first note. Carried agreed.

Carrie Underwood told the American Idol contestant, “We didn’t know what you were thinking about, but we knew you were thinking about something, and that’s being a storyteller. That pulls people in. That was very special.”

Samantha’s aunt shared her joy in the YouTube comment section. “From one of the smallest towns in Georgia. Still no Stop Light, but amazing country folk. This is my niece, and we are so proud of her!!!”

We don’t know what her journey will be, but we’ll see Samantha in Hollywood.
