Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel are proof that not all divorces end badly. The two are still friends 30 years after ending their marriage, and they proved that during a special performance of Uptown Girl over the weekend.

A TikTok video filmed on April 26th shows Billy singing the 1983 hit as a jumbotron captures Christie dancing and singing along. Both stars are all smiles as they enjoy the special moment in front of thousands. Another view highlighted on YouTube shows Christie and her daughter, Sailor, standing front row as Billy looks out to them as he sings the lyrics.
What many don’t know is that Billy Joel penned the single for Christie Brinkley. When he first began writing the lyrics, another supermodel was his muse. But when he met Christie, all his attention fell on her. When he finished the iconic song, Christie went on to star in the official music video.
“I wasn’t even dating Christie when I started,” he told Howard Stern in 2010. “I was dating Elle [Macpherson]. And then I started dating Christie, and rather than it being about all these different girls, she became the uptown girl. I started writing it about one person.”
Christie Brinkley Is Still One Of Billy Joel’s Number 1 Supporters
Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley started dating the same year that Uptown Girl was released and married in 1985. They had one child together, Alexa Ray Joel, before divorcing in 1994. Ultimately, Billy’s hectic touring schedule created too much distance in the relationship. However, they were able to stay close. In fact, Christie was in the crowd on Saturday to support Billy and Alexa.
During the show, Alexa took the stage to sing Lulu’s To Sir with Love and Billy’s Say Goodbye to Hollywood. Once the concert concluded, Christie jumped on Instagram to thank her daughter and ex-husband for the “magical evening.” And in a separate post, she admitted that Billy and Alexa’s relationship moved her to tears.
“Trust me,” she wrote. “It was sweetness personified. Billy was in his word, faklempt!”
