Clever Fundraiser Creates “Human Slot Machine” And We Want To Play!

Image shows three volunteers participating in a charity event as the wheels of a human slot machine.

Wauconda, Illinois, will not become the Midwest’s gambling capital, but their human slot machine is a tough act to follow. Conceived and built for a fundraising event held during the Wauconda Street Dance, this brilliant idea deserves some applause.

This human slot machine is sheer genius. The booth is split into three windows, with a volunteer standing in each. They cannot see one another. When the contestant’s turn begins, they ring a bell. The volunteers “spin” their arms like the wheels of a slot machine. When the spin stops, each volunteer grabs a random object and holds it up. If they show three identical objects, the contestant wins.

Based on the famous “one-armed bandit” from casinos, the human slot machine is entirely random. According to the comments, a contestant pays five dollars for three spins. The “pot” starts with ten dollars and grows with each entry. If contestants win, they get 50 percent of the current “pot.” The other half goes to the charity. After each win, accumulation begins again with ten dollars.

This looks like a fun activity for contestants and volunteers and a great way to raise funds for a charity. This event seems to have a good selection of volunteers, as we see several new faces as the rounds progress. Making a booth wouldn’t be difficult for someone with minimal carpentry skills. If there is a limited budget, it could also be constructed of cardboard and duct tape. The creativity of this charity fundraising activity is incredible.

If you are considering something similar for your charity event, please verify local regulations regarding gambling. Each state has different rules for “games of chance.”

Please share if this human slot machine made you smile.
