Payal’s hack for cutting bell peppers began not with a knife, but with her hands. First, she put the produce down on the cutting board and dug her thumbs into its center. In less than a second, the pepper stem was dislodged. Next, the chef ripped the ingredient in two, causing the stem and all the seeds to tumble out. Now the pepper was ready to be chopped!

This foolproof food-prepping hack for bell peppers has received over two million views. Some people thought that this method was brilliant, while others had their doubts.

“I’m not sending this to anyone so I can do this in front of my friends so they can be impressed,” wrote one user.

Another joked, “Tried this with a pumpkin and it didn’t work.”

Martin Yan also has a bell pepper hack. It’s a lot more complicated!

One person on social media suggested that celebrity Chef Martin Yan had a better way of preparing bell peppers. You can watch his trick below. Although it’s definitely impressive, it also looks pretty difficult for someone who isn’t a professional. If we were cooking bell peppers at home on a weeknight, we’d probably go with Payal’s hack!

Incidentally, Commune Kitchen explained in the comments section of their video that the technique they presented was specifically for amateurs.

“This is a quick hack for home cooks,” they explained. “We don’t do it this way in restaurants.”
