It appeared to be a normal day for the U.S. Coast Guards at Station Hatteras Inlet in the beautiful Outer Banks waters when, suddenly, a call over Channel 16 had them rushing to join an unexpected mission.

The officers had received a call for help from a vessel that lost their dog, Myla, after she fell overboard in Pamlico Sound. The crew didn’t hesitate to join them in their rescue mission and, shortly after, they detected some movement in the water. Yep, it was Myla who was trying her best to swim toward the boat!
As soon as they spotted Myla, who appeared to be in distress, they made their way toward her. Once she was brought on board, she was given a check-up to make sure she didn’t have any injuries. The coast guards also say the pup was given “VIP treatment by the crew,” which we can only imagine included lots and lots of pets!
“We want to congratulate Myla on being a good girl and an amazing doggie swimmer!” the U.S. Coast Guard crew wrote on Facebook.
Myla’s swimming skills were definitely put to the test that day, and we’re so glad she is okay!
