Nokia is a Finnish manufacturer that made the iconic “Brick.” When it first came out, it was state-of-the-art, and many people had it as their first cell phone. Technological advances quickly overshadowed the Brick. Now, Nokia cell phones bring back nostalgic memories. For one collector, vintage cell phones have become his life’s passion.

Wences Palau Fernandez of Barcelona, Spain, owns 3,615 cell phones. Much of his collection is mostly vintage Nokia cell phones, but also includes over 160 brands. Guinness World Records recently acknowledged and celebrated this vast collection.
On his collection website, Wences describes his first Nokia phone, model 3210, received as a Christmas gift in 1999. You might say it was love at first call. He enjoyed the sturdy reliability of the Nokia cell phone. Although his collection contains 3,615 different phones, when you count everything, he has more than 6,500 units! He began collecting Nokia vintage cell phones in 2008 and has no plans to stop.
Wences is very selective about collecting brands other than Nokia. His collection includes Siemens, Motorola, Blackberry, and iPhone models. His collection also includes items from other electronic genres, such as watches, TVs, and calculators from Casio, some video games from the 1980s, radio-controlled model cars and trains, and assorted computer parts. Nokia phones are his passion, but collecting electronics is in his DNA.
Several vintage cell phones in Wences’s collection are non-released prototypes and limited-edition models. He proudly discusses the Nokia 3220 Star Wars Ep III series, including the Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Starfighter, Padawan, and Cyborg versions.
Look for periodic updates on the Guinness World Record site as they reevaluate the growing collection. Please share if this vintage cell phone collection made you smile.
