Cyndi Lauper hit it big in 1983 with Girls Just Want To Have Fun. For more than 40 years, the song has been an anthem for women everywhere who want to enjoy their life without anyone getting them down. And while it might seem that Cyndi would have rebelled against the world and stayed single for eternity, that’s not the case. Instead, she found love with actor David Thornton. Cyndi Lauper will celebrate 34 years of marriage in November. Cyndi told People that staying married this long was easy because she and David love hanging out together.

Cyndi Lauper’s Marriage Hasn’t Always Been Perfect

She admitted that things can get a bit crazy. “You have your highs and lows of course,” she told People. “But sometimes the things you think are important when you’re young just aren’t important.”

When Cyndi Lauper speaks of her marriage, she is quick to point out that David isn’t just her spouse. He is her family.

“Your partner is the best friend you’ll ever have, that you’ll spend the most time with. So you have to talk to them, share stuff,” she said.

Cyndi and David’s marriage began in 1991 at a Friends’ meeting house in New York City. Seven years later, they welcomed their son, Declyn. After giving birth, Cyndi focused on motherhood and never went on the road for a big tour again. But that’s about to change. On October 18, Cyndi begins her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in Montreal.

Cyndi Lauper told People music is an important part of her marriage. she, David, and Declyn all like different kinds of music and that it plays a vital role in their lives.

“David loves art music, though his taste in music is different,” she said.
