When their kids are little, most parents stop at nothing to bring some magic into their lives.

After all, the world can feel pretty big and scary to children, so it’s our job as adults to make sure that they get to experience the wonder of childhood to the fullest extent.
One sweet way to do that is to give kiddos little gifts every now and then and to create lasting memories that they can always carry with them. One father‘s gift to his little girl combined all of that into one epic treasure hunt she won’t soon forget. The best part? Dad planned it all before she was even born.

Before his daughter came into the world, he decided to create the ultimate treasure hunt. He added a secret room off the side of the family home that he would one day use to house the amazing surprise.
He waited 7 years– until she was old enough– then Dad told her to rummage through a box of stuff. For a few minutes, the little one handed her father all the odds and ends she found inside.

The final item in the box, however, is what made her eyes light up. It was a pirate treasure map!

Excited by her discovery, she set out to find the buried treasure. Following the map, she led Dad and the gang to her bedroom. Puzzled, she noticed that the red X led straight her to the bedroom wall.
She enlisted Dad’s help to figure out what was going on. After knocking on the wall a few times, he noticed a hollow spot. That must’ve been it! He cut a little square into the wall and had his daughter peek to see what was on the other side.

From where she was standing, it was just an empty room. Nothing special, right?

Then Dad told her to take a closer look at the far wall. That’s when she found the treasure! She was totally thrilled to find an old-fashioned jewelry box filled with trinkets and pirate doubloons (which were totally authentic, of course).
