“Shannon had been waiting a long time to find her match.” writes Shannon’s now-husband Don in a YouTube video, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” But after Shannon met Don, she was ready to finally walk down the aisle in a white dress, and celebrate with her dream wedding! But one thing was missing.

“Like every daddy’s girl, Shannon looked forward to the Father & Daughter dance at her wedding.” writes Don. Sadly, Shannon’s father “passed away 1 month after finding out he had cancer.” Don knew he would have to go the extra mile to make Shannon feel extra loved on her wedding day, so he put together a special surprise for their first dance. And his bride was blown away.

Their first dance begins with Etta James’s “At Last,” a first dance classic. But the music abruptly cuts off and Don’s two sons, Tommy and Joey, take the stage– toss Don a Bruno Mars fedora– and begin a choreographed routine to “Just the Way You Are.”

Shannon is loving it! She can’t help but shake her head in surprise and smile… And how could she resist? Her groom and his sons are so cute together.
But then the music cuts off again, and Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” (another go-to first dance) starts, and this time, Don pulls out signs displaying the song’s lyrics. But when the music changes again, he turns around to prep for the biggest surprise of all…

There isn’t a dry eye in the venue when Don turns back around, revealing a shirt with a picture of Shannon’s father on it. Israel “Iz” KaÊ»anoÊ»i KamakawiwoÊ»ole’s Hawaiian cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” plays as Don gives his bride the closest thing to a father-daughter dance that he can give. It’s a truly beautiful scene.

The whole surprise comes to a close when “At Last” begins once again. In the end, all four songs (and all the surprises!) were all a part of this couple’s unique and meaningful first dance together. What an incredible picture of love!
